Chapter 7 Blog

As far as whether or not media objectivity still exists in the coverage of politics, I honestly don't have much of an opinion on that. I haven't had cable television in a very long time, and even if I did have it, I wouldn't have time to watch it. Not to mention, I've said it before politics frustrate me and I try to avoid them. I did however do a leading reading on objective media, and I found that NPR has a pretty good reputation for being objective.

Talk Radio-I enjoy listening to talk radio, more specifically Rush Limbaugh and Michael Savage of  The Savage Nation. How it affects me and my views? I don't think it's so much as what they are saying, but the fact that I'm in my car, and it's nothing but their voices and the road. I think the atmosphere in itself, causes me to really listen, not to mention the passion of the opinions that come from those radio shows, by callers and the hosts alike.

Media objectivity is important, however I agree with the opinions of many journalists think this is a myth. Besides, sticking strictly to the facts is boring, and boring doesn't sell.

I am a lot like you, politics also frustrate me. It really seems out of hand and not in any kind of order. The media seems like its battleground. I also try not to get all caught up in it. It almost seems like a waste of time and more drama filled than the reality TV shows these days. This is a country and nation, and it needs to be ran like one. It is really hard for me to totally avoid it though because of the impact it has on our lives.

  2. Politics doesn't frustrate me as much as all of the partisan fighting in Washington. To me it seems most politicians are more interested in fighting with each other than trying to get something done that will help the people. I never have gotten into listening to radio shows, honestly I'd rather just listen to music and catch up with whats going on TV or the internet. I know people who do listen to talk shows and they enjoy, but its just not my thing.

  3. I think what the media reports should have to report with honesty and not just tell their perspective. Everyone has an opinion of politics on our own. We don't need the news to do it for us. I don't listen to politics everyday of my life. I don't like to hear things over the radio in the car. That is my peace ride of the day to unwind. A debate over politics doesn't interest me. I think if that is your way to hear it fine. I still listen to the news every night or morning.

  4. I agree with you on the fact that politics, especially in media, can be very frustrating to follow let alone discuss, but I do appreciate you doing your homework to find a station that has more credibility in the matter. I found you comment about facts not selling and being boring both comical and saddening because it's become so true. Even news, which was once about getting the current events out for everyone to know, is turning into a rating hog. If their station doesn't get enough ratings, I understand the consequences, but it's depressing to see that they would rather turn "news" into almost reality TV, amping up suspense and drama, instead of just stating the facts.

  5. I agree with you that I dont have much time to watch TV and if and when I do, it frustrates me because it seems that they are not trying to get the country in order. I unlike you, do not listen to talk radio. Its hard for me to focus and absorb information if I cant see it, but my friend does listen to Rush all the time, and he does tend to side with him. I do typically listen to the radio in the car and on morning radio shows, I enjoy listening to the hosts and listeners calling in be so passionate about a specific issue.

  6. I also do not watch alot of tv, and when I do, its definitely not the news. I couldn't tell anyone what station pulls for what sides. I don't mess with politics either unless its necessary.

  7. I agree also. I do not watch tv much, and when I do, it is Dora with my two year old. I don't really pay attention to politics either, because it seems like everything that is reported is always so negative and biased, there is just no point.
